Entity is an object that can be characterized with multiple metrics. Simple entities, such as a temperature sensor, can collect a handful of metrics. A more complex system, such as a motor vehicle, can collect hundreds of metrics. In IT infrastructure, an entity may represent a server, virtual machine, network device, application, or service. In manufacturing, an entity may represent equipment, a batch job, plant, or sensor.
Entities can be placed into Entity Groups for the purpose of filtering data in reports and SQL queries, as well as for restricting user access.
This is a useful feature when working with a large number of entities and big data sets.
Entity Groups are created using the Entity Group editor.
Entity Group Expressions
Entities can be grouped by expression. This allows you to automatically add new entities that satisfy the expression into the entity group.
Group membership is refreshed by saving, as well as automatically every 15 minutes.
