Properties are a collection of key-values describing an entity. Properties serve as a centralized collection of configuration settings for tracking changes and security compliance. The values typically represent text descriptions, for example, configuration settings.

Unlike Entity tags, which are rarely changed and are usually imported from an external asset management database or a CMDB, properties are continuously updated by external tools, which makes them dynamic. Unlike time series values, ATSD stores only the most recent property record and can raise instant alerts and execute system actions on any change in the property record.
